This book guides you from the fundamentals of modern art to the cutting edge of contemporary art. It covers the basics, applications, and latest trends of art all in one volume. The most important keywords are categorized into 40 themes, and a keyword and name index is included at the end, making it extremely convenient.
This was a book I picked up when I thought, "Contemporary art is difficult, but I want to understand it."
I bought this about 10 years ago, and I've reread it countless times since then.
This book is a thoroughly engaging read, as it comprehensively covers all aspects of contemporary art, including "Pop Art," "Anti-Art," "Minimalism," "Land Art," "Body Art," "Art Brut," "Superflat," "J-Regression," "Minority," and "Neo-Conceptual Art."
The column series introducing the lives and works of renowned artists such as Duchamp, Warhol, Taro Okamoto, Yayoi Kusama, Hirst, and Takashi Murakami is also a must-read.
Each chapter includes a list of recommended related books, which is helpful when you want to delve deeper into the theme. It's a truly wonderful book that covers every detail. When I recommended this book to an American artist friend of mine, he raved about it. I discovered many artists through this book, and I'm especially glad I came across the work of Karin Mama Anderson. I'll also be posting about books by Francis Bacon, Takashi Murakami, Fuyuko Matsui, and the Chapman Brothers, whose works I've come to love even more.
Thank you for reading. Goodbye for now. Take care :)
