-The truth can be found by questioning-
point
First, it's important to be skeptical.
・Think through your doubts
・If you discover the truth, write it down.
René Descartes
1596-1650
French philosopher, mathematician, and naturalist
The famous quote, "I think, therefore I am" (Cogito ergo sum), which almost everyone has heard at least once, appears in this book. You might think it's a thick and difficult book, but you can read through it smoothly from page 137.
The title, "Discourse on Method," refers to the method for correctly guiding reason and pursuing truth. Descartes defines reason, also known as good sense, as the ability to make correct judgments and discern truth from falsehood. He states that reason is what makes humans human, and the one major difference between humans and other animals.
He argued that the truth is revealed not by simply sitting at a desk and contemplating, but by traveling, interacting with various people, and gaining many experiences. Having witnessed customs that are unacceptable in one country but are taken for granted in another, Descartes stated that one should not be too rigid in believing in what one is familiar with.
It is said that when writing, writing for a public purpose rather than just for oneself encourages more careful consideration and a more critical eye towards the content, making it easier to produce something valuable. It is also said that writing helps one become aware of mistakes.
This brings the total number of books I've introduced to about 12. I hope that by writing these down, I can be of help to someone.
