Would you go into a restaurant just to watch other people eat?

point

If you're going to criticize, do it along with a suggestion.

Take control of your own life.

Muammar al-Gaddafi

Libyan military officer, revolutionary, politician

This is a book written by Muammar al-Gaddafi, also known as the "Mad Dog of the Middle East" and in Japan as Colonel Gaddafi. He presents his theories, drawing on Mao Zedong's Little Red Book (Quotations from Mao Zedong) and Third World Theory.

Colonel Gaddafi proposed a third universal theory, replacing capitalism and communism. He argued that modern liberal democracy is a sham, and that if the people themselves became the main actors in the governing structure, the problems of democracy would be completely solved. This is not mere idealism; he carefully reinforces his argument with concrete examples from the perspective of Middle Eastern life and culture. As the book progresses, the level of abstraction decreases, and in the final section, he discusses the attitudes of individuals toward their own way of life. I think the latter half alone is worth reading.

In particular, his essays on sports, shows, and theater are highly relatable, arguing that anything you can't actively participate in is foolish. Drawing on the harsh realities of nomadic life in the Middle East, he strongly asserts that for someone living a truly serious life, there's nothing more meaningless than watching others perform. He asks, "Would you go into a restaurant just to watch other people eat?" and emphasizes the importance of actively participating in things.

Despite his imposing appearance, the book's tone is gentle and easy to read. And thanks to the persuasive power of a revolutionary, by the time you finish reading it, you'll feel the courage to take control of your own life.
