What is mismatched body fashion?

Orion Radio Mismatched Body

Fashion begins with taking your school uniform and making it look casual.

point

Fashion is about deviating from all standards.

Seiichi Washida, born 1949, is a university professor and philosopher.

Clothing and shoes are not made to fit the body, but rather the body is adapted to them; this is what defines fashion, and the prototype of fashion begins with wearing school uniforms in a modified way.

To remove, shift, or disrupt something that is already established.

A sense of deviating from all standard norms.

A sense of distance from society.

A sense of distance from oneself.

When we try to break free from a certain framework, individuality is born, and fashion is born.

Without a firm sense of self, one cannot even dress in a relaxed or unconventional way. This can also be interpreted as the concept of "Shu-Ha-Ri" from Sen no Rikyu's "Rikyu Doka" (Rikyu's Way of Life). First, one must adhere to social norms, then become aware of the differences between those norms and one's own sensibilities, breaking away from existing forms, and finally, creating one's own style. Once an individual has achieved this, they are no longer bound by the original form, but become free. In this way, new schools and fashions are born.

Humans are inherently unbalanced beings. There's no such thing as fashion that's truly "real" for us; we're always either stretching ourselves or shrinking ourselves, resulting in a mismatch in size. It's fascinating how this imbalance becomes fashion. People who dress in eccentric ways might be expressing a cry from their heart, perhaps even weeping inside.

The book also touches upon the tolerance for fashion in relation to physical changes. Compared to the physical changes in women, the physical changes in men are flatter and more abstract; they haven't experienced the major ups and downs of their bodies. This lack of mental experience in these changes could potentially lead to a breakdown in men's mental state. While it's common to see women wearing men's clothes in public, the reverse is rare and uncommon.

I reread a book I finished reading 10 years ago. I first encountered this book during a time when I was gathering information and struggling to figure out what I should do to become a fashion designer. It's a book from which I can still draw lessons even after I started making clothes.

I will also introduce the film "Video Notes on Cities and Fashion," which is mentioned in this book, in the future.

The designer listed the necessary qualities to be a philosopher, journalist, businessman, and gigolo.
